How she built it

Dark board-and-batten, cedar timber porch, the one she actually built.

The first house she designed and built end-to-end. Dark vertical board-and-batten cedar cladding, asphalt shingle gable roof, a long covered front porch on paired reclaimed cedar timber posts under a matte-black metal roof, oversized black-framed windows. Inside: grey-blue Shaker kitchen with black hardware, white quartz countertops, black stainless appliances. This is the reference point — every concept in this library is some variant of what she learned building this one.

Candace's voice memo · transcript
First build. I learned the most about cedar from this one — paying for kiln-dried boards once, instead of fighting twisted lumber three times. The porch posts are the thing I'd repeat on every build after.
